Yes..people have compared me to this iconic comedian. Especially my husband. He walks into our house  yelling, “Lucy, I’m home” –and I must say, it makes me laugh. I love Lucy! I’m flattered even though sometimes he will mean it  in a being funny but mean way because he feels I have no business being in the kitchen….ever…unless I’m cleaning it.  I guess I have a missing gene when it comes to cooking. My husband is the chef in our family. He rocks at it. He LOVES cooking and we make a great team because he cooks–I clean!  Of course, I help slice or dice if needed but usually he wants me out of his kitchen. when he is out of town, my daughter and I go out. LOL!

Inevitably, something will go wrong in the kitchen when I’m in there and it has become comical to my family and friends. I do, however, get praise for my salads or small things that do not require using the stove or oven. Even something as simple as a grilled-cheese sandwich or bagels in the toaster-oven have alsmost burned the house down. I guess I get distracted. It’s gotta be some kind of  “‘cooking ADD”…although I’ve had some success with Mac & Cheese and pancakes. But, one time I burned water…yes…water.  I forgot to put the noodles in the pan of boiling water and we had to throw the pan away because it melted. The smell of ‘metal’ remained in the house for days. The Crock Pot has helped me a lot…because it is a slow cooker and all I have to do is serve but my husband is the one who prepares and starts it. I also have a missing gene to push the start button and one time we came home to an uncooked crock pot meal. We had to laugh! We all have out talents…cooking is NOT one of mine.

So, WHY ARE THEY ASKING ME TO HOST A COOKING SHOW?

COMIC RELIEF!!!  NO DOUBT!!!

The ONLY reason I said yes is because it will benefit our local Easter Seals to help physically challenged people have a better quality of  life. How could I say no? But, everyone I know are relieved I’m just hosting.

PLEASE JOIN ME FOR THE FUN!

Thursday, February 25th 6:30pm-9:30pm for this great celebrity cooking event:

”THE BEST THING I MAKE”  featuring local chefs and  my long time friend, Fox 40’s Paul Robbins.  Get your ticket info here: www.myeasterseals.org

They will cook…I will host…no worries.

My very talented and fun friend, Crystal Jones, is the artist-inventor of the ever-endearing and increasingly popular ‘Cranky Girl’ series of these cartoons, e-cards, greeting cards, pins, magnets, keychains, etc.

CRANKY GIRL makes me laugh.

Creator, Crystal Jones, also happens to be the wife of our afternoon drive guy, Doug Thomas ,who has certainly seen me cranky before…LOL!   Here is the Cranky Girl website for you to laugh with us:  http://www.crankygirl411.com

So, ….HEY THERE …CRANKY GIRL….(and who isn’t from time to time! )….I am completely convinced that I am a better human being and a better woman, wife and mother when I use a sense of humor about it all. Because the hormones are raging…for sure!  I empathize! Especially if I don’t  get enough sleep. Yes, eating healthier and excercise is proven to help…but it isn’t always easy…eating healthy and excersise does help one sleep beter tho’…true.

It’s a vicious circle.  No one understands more than me how hard it is to be disciplined. I am not very disciplined …I admit it…and I don’t try to be something I’m not. There are those who go bragging on Facebook when they go to the gym or cut out carbs or run 5 miles…they are saying “yeah for me yeah for me” but, this is…annoying. And, I certainly don’t care for those shallow comments like, “have you lost weight?” or “do you work out?”…. Just say,”you look great” when you mean it…or shut up! (ummm…cranky girl coming out)

In fact, throughout my radio career of over 30 years…I refuse to do commercials for any weight loss program and I NEVER HAVE. (NO…that was not me…btw)… I am way too much of a yo-yo to endorse loosing weight….let’s stay honest here. It is heartbreaking for those who have advertised their weight loss and then had their weight return. I struggle to accept myself no matter what I look like and yes, I wish I was thinner….but, it is the willing more than the wanting that will keep you there. I try to find the beauty in my sense of humor and my love for others more than maintaining the status quo. Oprah is finally learning this, I hope, too.  We can’t all be size 2-4-6-8….who do we appreciate?

YES-we can ALL …at least… FEEL HEALTHY AND LESS CRANKY! (and laugh about it when we do get cranky…:))

So…I am a ‘CRANKY GIRL’ (sometimes not always thank God)…and I’m usually only cranky when I am overly tired. Sleep ROCKS! And, we need more than we admit. Especially teenagers need MORE sleep. Add hormones to lack of sleep and…and look out. My loving husband deals with two women every day in our household…we are both going through ch-ch-ch-changes. I am going through “the mid-life change” and my 14 yr. old daughter is going through “welcome to womanhood” changes …and all with attitude! YES–WE  GET CRANKY!!!!!!!!!!

Our crankiness is certainly enhanced by those wonderful horror-moans…seriously messing with our minds and bodies. The only control we have is to listen to great music on 94.7 KSSJ, breathe deeper, get massages, excersise more, hug more and everyone who knows anything say to…. EAT THIS!!!!

OMEGA -3 -

and also the following info will certainly help!

KNOW THAT YOU’RE LOVED!

Lynda

DR. SHOSH’S NUTRITIONAL ADVICE :

FOR STRESSED OUT WOMEN & MOODY MOMS:

1. Quick check for omega-3 deficiency.

  • Deficiencies in omega-3 fatty acid levels have been linked to depression. With modern diets heavily weighted in favor of the omega-6 fatty acids from corn, safflower, and soybean oils, omega-3 deficiencies in the cell membranes of both women and men is the norm rather than the exception. Such omega-3 deficiencies are especially common in women during and after pregnancy because the body preferentially shuttles the mother’s omega-3 fatty acids to the developing fetus. A fatty acid analysis can be done with a single drop of blood.

2. Increase Omega-3 dietary intake.

  • Salmon, sardines, anchovies, and cod contain the highest levels of omega-3, along with free-range eggs and grass fed-meats. High-grade fish oil supplements can and should also be used daily, with higher doses during pregnancy and while nursing.

3. Increase protein, decrease carbohydrates.

  • An increase in healthy protein and the good omega-3 fats will help stabilize blood sugar and smooth mental outlook. Avoid sugar and sweets that elevate, then crash moods.

4. Fruits and vegetables.

  • A variety, several times each day, especially dark leafy greens.

5. Magnesium and calcium supplements.

  • Magnesium is natural muscle relaxant and has a calming effect.

6. Tryptophan and B-Complex supplements

  • The brain needs a steady supply of the amino acid tryptophan and B-vitamins to make serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that has profound effect on mood.

Ashton Kutcher may be head-over-heels for wife Demi Moore — but the actor doesn’t care for the idea of Valentine’s Day. Kutcher, who stars in the holiday-titled movie opening next week, told Parade magazine, “I think every day should be a day of romance. Then, on Valentine’s Day, you should get to tell whoever you hate that you cannot stand them. There would be one day of that, and 364 days of love.”

He noted that a traumatic experience early in life may be the root of his disdain. He explained, “There was this girl who sat in front of me who had the prettiest super-long hair. I was absolutely infatuated with her.” After giving her a card which read Kiss Me, “She didn’t get the point and I never got kissed.”  OH man…jilted!  Feels horrible!!!! We’ve all felt that one way or another. As for the sappy, sweet things he’s done since, Kutcher recalled, “I think the most romantic thing that I’ve done is travel a long way to another country for like an hour to see someone I loved and then turn around and go back because I had a commitment I couldn’t cancel. So it was literally not sleeping for two days, going through hell, just to see somebody for an hour.”

Personally, I agree we should LOVE every single day of the year…but, I wouldn’t want one day set aside for ranting or showing hate to anyone. Knowng how Ashton kids around, we all know he was kidding and trying to make a point to love every day.

As for Valentine’s Day, my husband and I enjoy sharing cards and sometimes a gift or flowers on Valentine’s Day but it is not because we have to…it’s because –if we don’t, our hearts would feel…well…like Ashton felt when the young girl in school jilted him. It’s a custom of courtesy with any holiday or birthday or anniversary to show in some way you care. Even a hand written note or home-made card (the best by far) is better than nothing . People who completely ignore a day or forget to get something, I feel are not showing they care.  Valentine’s Day reminds us to remind those we love that they are in our hearts.

Heck…today… even a text message is better than nothing at all…:)LOL!

I remind you everyday on KSSJ,  “KNOW THAT YOU’RE LOVED!   YES…but how do we know unless we show it too. My nana use to say, “Love without action is like a car with no wheels”….so get rolling!

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney had his Oscar joy knocked down a peg by a ‘worst’ movie distinction. A day after he was nominated for best actor at the Academy Awards, Empire magazine named his 1997 flick, ‘Batman and Robin’ “the most disastrous film ever made.”

The magazine said the movie didn’t just top the list, but got almost three times as many votes as the next entry, John Travolta’s ‘Battlefield Earth’.

Do you agree? Or do you think Empire is out of line? For the whole list, go to: www.empireonline.com

Here’s a list of Empire’s 10 most disastrous movies ever made.

1. “Batman and Robin” George Clooney, Alicia Silverstone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman

 love-wallpaper[1]

Although it could be year-round– February is the month designated to show love to others and to also show love to yourself with the annual gift on Valentine’s Day. Did you know 15% of  American women give themselves flowers for Valentine’s Day? I say why not…Ralph Waldo Emerson–American poet– said, “The greatest gift is a portion of thyself.” and if we don’t love ourselves first how can we have someone else?  Whether giving gifts of love to yourself or others this month for Valentine’s Day, think of something you can do that is truly helpful, give for example: a mom a break from the kids–a dad a clean car–a mani-pedi for her or plant some bulbs that bloom and re-bloom all year to remind love blooms–make a home-cooked romantic  dinner just for the two of you and give each other back rubs with no expectations…(smile). There is also a gift giving website that is helpful… www.GiftGenius.com : They can help you find the very best gift for your special someone on Valentine’s Day without having you dash to the mall in a last minute effort.  Yes, flowers and candy and another stuffed bear is nice…but, a little predictable.  I know for a fact we woman appreciate anything…any kind of effort…but personally, I would like a clean car–a mani-pedi and a delicious home cooked meal by the fire with my hubby. He is an excellent cook and maybe that is why he doesn’t mind me being so voluptuous….LOL!

WireImage_3986065[1] One of my favorite actors, Morgan Freeman, will  join Queen Latifah to host a series of concerts at the White House through February celebrating music of the civil rights movement.

Natalie Cole, Jennifer Hudson, Bob Dylan, John Legend, Smokey Robinson, Seal, and John Mellencamp will all perform at the February 10th event that will be broadcast the next night (check local listings for channel & time).  I am personally looking forward to this guy….:)                      johnlegend[1] and this guy….:)arjanwrites_seal2[1]

The evening will include speeches by President and Mrs. Obama and readings from civil rights speeches. I like the fact that the Obamas are taking time to celebrate the civil rights movement with music…I hope it remains forward thinking. I appreciate the Obamas bringing the arts back to the White House.  Your thoughts?

Solo_Voyage_JPEG_156257c[1]  Abby Sunderland is a 16-year-old girl. Most 16-year-old girls are concerned about getting a drivers license or pimples, prom, and being popular. For Californian teenager Abby Sunderland, being hi-jacked by pirates, crushed in blinding squalls, or starving to death top the list.

Last Friday, the young sailor hopped aboard her boat Wild Eyes and set out to be the youngest person to sail around the world. Crazy? You bet!  But with social networking, bullying, pregnancy pacts, gang violence, and all the other dreck facing many teenage girls attending high school today, spending 150 days on a boat alone doesn’t sound so dangerous.

Abby is taking with her some 24,500 books, her iPod, a couple of cameras, plenty of batteries and six months supply of dehydrated food.

You might have already heard about her brother, Zac Sunderland, who sailed around the world when he was just 17…on a 36-foot ISLANDER sailboat he bought for $6,000. It took him 13 months and 2 days. Abby plans to do it in 5 months. This just has to be a brother and sister competition because no one is stopping this sweet, fearless 16 year old girl from this dangerous task….including her parents which I personally have a hard time with for both kids doing this. No matter how trained…this is a mission…they are on all by themselves.

I have a hard time letting Shayna, my soon to be 15 yr. old daughter , ride and jump her horse in Equestrian events…or walk anywhere by herself let alone let her go alone on a sail boat around the world all by herself…..in fact, I wouldn’t let her….just sayin’….but, I know this probably wouldn’t stop Abby.
